In 1950, engineers widened Washington Road between Alfred Street and Shady Drive East to accommodate a higher volume of traffic. Several buildings on the east side of the street (on the right) were rolled back 10 ½ feet. The project cost about $100,000, which is approximately $1.3 million in 2023 money.
