Woodland Drive resident Coleen Vuono has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Ward 3 commissioner Kristen Linfante, who resigned earlier this year for health reasons. Vuono, who served on the commission from 1988 to 1991, is the former executive director of the Pittsburgh Disability Employment Project for Freedom, and has also served as deputy director of the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living. She will hold the position until January 4, 2016.
A graduate of the Coro Center for Civic Leadership and of Leadership Pittsburgh, Vuono holds a master of science in professional leadership from Carlow University, and has served on the Governor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities, the Allegheny County Mental Health Court Task Force and the National Association for the Mentally Ill.
Vuono was chosen from among seven candidates who expressed interest in the position.
“It’s heartening to know that we have so many people who are not only willing to serve, but also are highly qualified,” said Commission President John Bendel when Vuono was appointed.
Commissioner Steve Silverman noted Vuono’s experience. “We won’t have a long learning curve in these next few months.”
