The Town Hall South Lecture Series returns   this fall with topics covering everything from security fraud to memory loss. Lectures begin at 10 a.m., at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater. Tickets are available by series subscription for $145 at www.townhallsouth.org. Post-lecture luncheons are available by reservation at St. Clair Country Club and include a question and answer session with the guest lecturer.

The series kicks off October 1, with Frank Abagnale, one of the world’s leading authorities on forgery and embezzlement. As a young man in the 1960s, Abagnale was a con artist who cashed millions of fraudulent checks (his early life was the inspiration for the film Catch Me If You Can). After a five-year prison term, he was released on the condition he would assist the FBI as an expert on fraud.

On November 5, is Eric Greitens, a US Navy SEAL, nonprofit humanitarian leader, documentary photographer and author. His books include Strength and Compassion, The Heart and the Fist: The Education of a Humanitarian, the Making of a Navy SEAL and The Warrior’s Heart: Becoming a Man of Compassion and Courage.

On December 3 is Zanny Minton-Beddoes, the Economist’s economics editor and a regular television and radio commentator on PBS and NPR, where she covers economic policy and issues relating to globalization.

On February 4, 2014, Dr. Gary Small, a professor of psychiatry and the director of both the UCLA Memory Clinic and the UCLA Center on Aging, will discuss his discoveries on the detection and prevention of brain aging and memory loss. The author of The Memory Bible, Dr. Small invented the first brain scan that allows doctors to see the physical evidence of brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease in living people.

Concluding the series on March 4, 2014, is Wes Moore, a youth advocate, an army combat veteran and an innovative social entrepreneur. His book, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, was a New York Times best seller. A White House Fellow in 2006-07, Moore served as a special assistant to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and later became an investment professional in New York. Moore founded STAND!, which works with Baltimore youth involved in the criminal justice system.
