The Way Back: Trolley Day

After 83 years of service in Mt. Lebanon, the last trolley traveled Washington Road on April 14, 1984. In recognition of the event, the community held a Trolley Day celebration. Shortly thereafter, the trolley tracks, wires, and concrete safety dividers were removed from Washington Road and the Port Authority of Allegheny County (now Pittsburgh Regional Transit) began work on the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) station on Shady Drive East. The first LRT vehicle pulled into Mt. Lebanon Station in May, 1987.
