HOMESTEAD STRIKE Jerry Fitzgibbon, interpretive historian for the Rivers of Steel Heritage Area, will present “The Homestead Strike of 1892,” 7 p.m., Thursday, April 12. More than 125 years after the events took place, the 1892 Homestead Strike retains its capacity to shock. On one side was the Carnegie Steel Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturing firm at the time. Representing labor was the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers. Founded in 1876, it was one of the largest unions in the country with a membership of over 20,000. Presented by the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon.

ASIAN FILM SERIES Mt. Lebanon Library is partnering with Silk Screen Film Festival for a Chinese Movie Series: The Road Home,  6:30 p.m., Monday, April 2. Set against the visually stunning backdrop of a remote area of northern China, this simple story focuses on the power of love and the importance of cultural traditions. Coming Home, 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 9. The end of The Cultural Revolution dramatically changes the lives of three family members. While the backdrop for this story is a specific time and place, its exploration of love and devotion is timeless. Films are free of charge.

ENGLISH GARDENS Visit the gardens of your favorite authors, including Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Beatrix Potter, Agatha Christie and Frances Hodgson Burnett at Literary Gardens of England, 1 p.m., Saturday, April 7. Speaker Carol Chernega—the author of A Dream House: Exploring the Literary Homes of England—will discuss how these writers used their surroundings in their work, and provide tips on how to create an English garden.
