VOLUNTEER FAIR 1-3 p.m., Friday, July 14

Have some free time and willing to lend a hand? Meet local non-profits looking for volunteers and find out how you can make a positive difference in our community. Participants include SHIM, Family Hospice, Animal Friends, Homeless Children’s Education Fund, Global Links, Hollywood Theater and more.

 

 

PAPER PLAY STORYTELLING
10 a.m., Monday, July 24 & Tuesday, July 25 

Kamishibai, or “paper play,” is a form of storytelling popularized in postwar Japan, prior to the advent of television. Learn about this beautiful, flexible art form, then create and present a kamishibai story of your own. For kids entering second through fifth grade. Registration required.

 

TOUCH-A-TRUCK

The library’s parking lot will be filled with all kinds of trucks—from utility trucks to emergency vehicles—for truck lovers of all ages to see up close.

 

GLOBAL BEAT: AFRICA

An all-ages, after-hours, cultural get-together at Mt. Lebanon Library. Explore a different country or region of the world each month through live music, food, dance and conversation with the artists.

4:45 p.m., Saturday, July 15

Yamoussa Camara and the Camara Drum and Dance Ensemble will perform unique and exciting arrangements of West African music, punctuated by original choreography and authentic costumes made for the group in Guinea. Yamoussa Camara, born in Guinea, was one of West Africa’s premier drummers. He has performed in Europe, Africa and the US. Currently Yamoussa teaches West African dance at CMU, Point Park, and leads the African Drum Ensemble at the University of Pittsburgh.

 

PET SHOW
7 p.m., Tuesday, August 8

Show off your furry, feathered, or scaly friend at Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s annual Pet Show. Register in the children’s department starting July 17. Every pet goes home a winner.
