Through partnerships with local social service organizations, the Mt. Lebanon Public Library can help you connect with the services that you need. We want our patrons to be aware that the following services are available free of charge to you or to someone you may know. Please feel free to ask our reference librarians for assistance in getting connected to any of the following services:
SOCIAL WORKERS The Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, is providing a new service in community libraries. The program matches social work students with libraries to assist with community needs. To find out more about the free program, locations and hours, scan the QR code at right.
LITERACY PITTSBURGH The library hosts weekly English as a Second Language conversation classes for Literacy Pittsburgh students, and a monthly drop-in program for everyone. Learn more and register for a program here.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT A counselor from the Jewish Family Community Services’s Career Development Center (CDC) visits the library on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The CDC’s client services focus on building job search skills for career success. WORKING WOMEN If you are a new American seeking employment, re-entering the workforce after a career break, or just feeling stuck in your job search, the library offers an additional in-person counseling opportunity with Pennsylvania Women Work. You can work one-on-one with a career coach to gain the skills and confidence needed to get started in a new career. LITERARY PEEP SHOW Marshmallow peep season is once again upon us, which means it’s time to put together your best book-themed, shoebox-sized diorama starring the sugary, sugary baby chicks in one of these categories: Kids ages 0-6, Kids ages 7-10, Family, Teens, Adults. Drop off your diorama, with an entry form, in the Children’s Library between April 1 and 7, and the library will award the winners the week of April 15. Limit one entry per contestant. Tail Waggin’ Tutors

Sign up to read to a dog! Practice your reading skills with a very attentive listener. Dog listeners are trained by Therapy Dogs International. Registration required.
Chess Club
6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, story room
For kids in grades 1 through 5. Learn new moves and strategies and have fun playing with other kids. All levels welcome, but players must know how chess pieces move. Register for each session individually. Registration opens one month prior to program beginning at 9 a.m.
Book Lab
6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11
Read a new STEAM themed book each month, then get together to experiment! Practice collaboration and communication skills as you work on fun challenges. Book selections will be both fiction and non-fiction. For kids in grades 1 and 2. Registration for all book clubs occurs when the book is checked out. Please stop by the children’s reference desk for your copy.
Pajama Story Time

Interactive stories and creative activities for children age 3 to 6 and family.
Kids’ Dungeons & Dragons
4 p.m., Monday, April 15, story room
Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop role playing games help kids practice social skills, math, problem solving, and collaborative storytelling. Beginning players are welcome to join in this librarian-led continuing adventure for kids in grade 3-5.
Roll your own character in advance (come prepared at level 5) or select a ready-made character sheet when you arrive. Space is limited, so register early.

We all love stim toys and fidgets, but what’s the neuroscience behind them? And how can you easily find sensory experiences that mirror those calming effects in your everyday environment, even when you may not have access to stim toys? Play with a variety of fidget toys, and even take a few home with you for free! Sponsored by the Matt’s Makerspace SHINE Initiative which promotes all-ages mental wellness. For 6th grade and up!

Create Your Own Backyard Wildlife Habitat

Award-winning wildlife photographer and author Doris Dumrauf presents some simple steps to create a backyard wildlife habitat. Dumrauf’s yard is a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat.
Kaufmann’s

Robert O. Stakeley from the Senator John Heinz History Center will show never-before-seen images and archival materials. Those attending the program are invited to share their stories and memories of Kaufmann’s and bring mementos. Presented by the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon.
Paws to Relax

Come to the library and pet some dogs! Therapy dogs, with their friendly and easygoing temperaments, provide psychological and physiological therapy by interacting with people. Ideal for seniors and adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers.
