SUMMER! READING! It’s never a bad time to immerse yourself in a book, but for many of us, summer is the season when we take our little perfect-bound friends with us to the beach, or the mountains, or even just out on the patio to enjoy the fresh air with us. Books, beverages and bonhomie, all together. The theme for Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program is All Together Now, exploring the connections among the collections on the shelves.

At press time, plans were still in the works, but here’s what we know so far.

The library is planning a kickoff event on Monday, June 12, where you can register in person, or you can register online. Prizes for adults include book baskets, gift cards and the grand prize at the end of the program is a year’s subscription to the Book of the Month Club.

For kids, the summer learning program—reading club sounded a little exclusive, so we’re going with learning program—features cooperative board games, activities, and a community art project where kids get the chance to decorate the children’s library. Lots more fun stuff is in the works, including themed get-togethers and weekly prizes, leading up to the grand finale in the first week of August. IN THE GARDEN The Friends of Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s 33rd annual garden tour is happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 25. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the tour, and features seven gardens. Since the 1991, the tour has brought in more than half a million dollars to help pay for things outside the library’s operating budget, such as the outdoor courtyard,  and equipment for the library’s maker space.
