BEER IS BACK! The pandemic forced the cancellation of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s popular beer tasting events, August’s Beer Garden Bash and January’s Brews for a Chili Night, but as things return to normal, the library is featuring a new event.
From 6 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, September 18, celebrate Oktoberfest with a couple of dozen beers, ciders and premium soft drinks, along with soft pretzels, gourmet chips and desserts.
Tickets are $35 general admission; $50 sponsors (sponsors receive a mention in the brochure and a small gift) and will go on sale Monday, July 12, at the library and online at www.mtlebanonlibrary.org [1].
To ensure the safety for the attendees and volunteers, attendance will be smaller than at past events, so get your tickets soon.
COURTYARD MUSIC The library’s Concerts in the Courtyard series may have wandered off last year, but they’re all back now. Concerts are free, but registration is required. Register at www.mtlebanonlibrary.org.
Concerts start at 7 p.m., every Thursday in August. Here’s the lineup:
August 5: Maureen Renihan & Friends will perform vocal and instrumental jazz standards, blues and jazz interpretations of popular music.
August 12: Duo Forte, Klezmer and Greek music, with a jazz influence.
August 19: Steel City Calypso, Pittsburgh’s premier steel drum-calypso-reggae-Latin-funk-trop rock.
August 26: Mt Lebanon High School String Quartet Light classics, Broadway hits and classic popular songs.
ALAINA SMITH, Woodhaven Drive, received this year’s Held Scholarship from Mt. Lebanon Public Library. The $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by the family of David Held, Mt. Lebanon High School Class of 1975 who died of bile duct cancer in 2013. The scholarship is open to any graduating senior at Mt. Lebanon High School who is enrolled in an accredited college or institution of higher learning. Rather than an essay, this year’s scholarship committee asked students to create a short video production using the theme MORE at Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Smith has been accepted to the 2025 class at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
