Social Media and Blog Comment Policy for Readers

As an extension of Mt. Lebanon’s official municipal website (www.mtlebanon.org), some official social media outlets utilized by the public information office may allow for public comment and posting. We do so with the goal of fostering open and transparent communication between municipal officials and residents, as well as promoting and strengthening the positive character of our community. The same shall be true of any blog on our magazine website, www.lebomag.com. We sincerely hope those who participate will do so in a constructive, polite manner, with respect for any opposing views of other people. Please be aware that when engaging with the Mt. Lebanon over social media, you are agreeing to the following:

The Mt. Lebanon Municipality manages this page as a limited public forum. By permitting use of the public comment feature, Mt. Lebanon does not intend to create a general public forum, and all comments and posts must comply with this policy. Mt. Lebanon reserves the right to determine whether comments will be allowed for a post or comment.  Mt. Lebanon can also discontinue accepting comments on a particular matter at any time.

The Municipality reserves the right to remove any comments that are inappropriate or offensive, including comments that are (or include):

  • Not directly related to the topic;
  • Profane and/or vulgar content;
  • Sexually suggestive or harassing content;
  • Obscene content;
  • Nudity in a participant’s profile picture;
  • Threats of physical or bodily harm;
  • Defamatory statements;
  • Disparaging language or hate speech targeting an individual’s race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, AIDS or HIV status, or disability;
  • Commercial content promoting or soliciting service or products;
  • Content promoting political organizations;
  • Name-calling and/or personal attacks;
  • Spam, such as the same comment posted repeatedly;
  • Personally identifying, sensitive and/or private information;
  • Language or content suggesting or encouraging illegal activity;
  • Information that could reasonably compromise public safety;
  • Copyrighted material that belongs to another person,
  • Links to inappropriate websites.

Comments posted by members of the public on any Mt. Lebanon social media site or blog are the opinions of the commentator/poster only, and publication of a comment does not imply endorsement of, or agreement by, the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon, nor do such comments necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of Mt. Lebanon. Comments on blog posts will not be posted until approved by a moderator and are subject to the same rules as above. Posting on any of our pages or social media accounts constitutes acceptance of these terms.

Communications posted on our social media pages will not be construed as satisfying requirements for legal notice or service, shall not be considered official public comment, and shall not be construed as an official request for records pursuant to the Right-to-Know Law.

Safety

Do not use our pages to report a crime in progress. Call 911 for a first responder, especially since our pages are not monitored 24 hours a day.
