As my first year as Superintendent of the Mt. Lebanon School District comes to a close, I want to thank the entire community for welcoming me, sharing your insights and feedback and entrusting me with the responsibility of leading our amazing schools.

This school year, our students have truly flourished in all that Mt. Lebanon School District has to offer, especially in academics, activities, arts, and athletics.

The MTLSD STEM Academy helped our students explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on experiences at UPMC Clinical Laboratories and Westinghouse for an “Engineer Your Future” event.

MTLSD was named to the “Best Communities for Music Education” for the 16th year and our high school wind ensemble was selected to perform at the 2024 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Annual Conference. Mt. Lebanon Percussion celebrated its 40th anniversary with a concert series that featured exciting performances of current students and alumni.  Thank you to all the members of the community who watched our students step into the spotlight and shine brightly in plays and musicals this year!

Our athletics teams and student-athletes continued to shine. Junior Sylvia Roy set a new state record in the PIAA Class 3A girls 100 backstroke (52.90) to earn her second consecutive state gold medal in the event.

We were very pleased to learn that all seven of our elementary schools ranked in the top 100 of all elementary schools in the state by U.S. News & World Report, with our two middle schools achieving a top 15 finish!

My first year was not without challenges, especially when assessing the district’s financial practices. Like many districts across the region and country, MTLSD is facing considerable rising costs across insurance, tuition, transportation, and inflationary cost increases. Our administration and budget managers continue to work towards a goal of not just a balanced budget, but a sustainable model to guide MTLSD into the future.

Not only was this my first year as your superintendent, but it was my first year as a Mt. Lebanon School District parent. Our family relocated to the area in late fall and have loved walking the neighborhoods, visiting new restaurants, and making new friends. This truly is a vibrant and caring community and I look forward to raising my family here for years to come.

The summer is a wonderful time to recharge your batteries, spend quality time with family and friends, and pursue activities that bring you joy. I hope you make the most of this well-deserved break!
