In the medical specialty known as Family Medicine, there are many opportunities to touch and improve the lives of patients. Family medicine physicians serve as primary care physicians, providing comprehensive, integrated health care to people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, often treating entire families. People turn to them for all of their health and wellness needs and frequently develop lifelong, trusting personal relationships with their “family doctor.”
That’s why family medicine is enormously satisfying for Emily E. Gleason, M.D., who joined St. Clair Family Practice Associates, part of St. Clair Medical Services, last year. “Family practice covers a wide range,” she says. “We provide preventive care, annual exams, treatment of acute illnesses and injuries, and medical management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. Family practice includes the care of adults and children, and a lot of women’s health, including contraception and gynecology. We care for every member of the family at every life stage. The challenge is in keeping up-to-date on diseases and treatments in so many fields.”
One of Dr. Gleason’s priorities is the promotion of healthful living through preventive care, lifestyle modifications, good nutrition and weight management.
Dr. Gleason is a South Hills native and a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School who worked as a volunteer at St. Clair Hospital during her teens.
