For Elizabeth J. Pronesti, M.D., caring for women throughout their lifespans is a privilege and a passion. An obstetrician/gynecologist who earned her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed a residency at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, Dr. Pronesti is a South Hills native who recently joined the practice of Zubritzky & Christy, part of St. Clair Medical Services. “Working with Drs. (Paul) Zubritzky and (Patrick) Christy and their partners is an opportunity to do what I’ve always dreamed of doing—caring for women in my own community,” Dr. Pronesti says. “I’m excited to join their group and to practice at St. Clair, where I’ve received a warm welcome.”

OB/GYNs have a broad range of capabilities and Dr. Pronesti says delivering babies and performing minimally invasive surgery are, for her, the most satisfying. She provides preventive care, pre-conception and pregnancy care,and treatment of many conditions, including infertility. The need for infertility treatment is rising, Dr. Pronesti says, as more women are waiting to have families. “An infertility work-up is initiated if a couple fails to conceive with regular unprotected sex for 12 months, in women under 35, or for six months in women 35 and older. For those struggling with the condition, there are options,” she says. “We provide comprehensive diagnostics and care, beginning with an interview to review the woman’s history and her partner’s; we conduct an exam, and obtain lab work and imaging studies. In some cases, we may refer to a specialist.”

Dr. Pronesti appreciates her relationships with her patients. “We see our patients in some of the most intimate and important moments of their lives. I view it as a partnership, with shared decision-making, and I treat my patients like family members.”
