Raye J. Budway, M.D., one of Western Pennsylvania’s most respected and sought-after breast surgeons, is expanding her practice with the addition of a fellowship-trained new partner, Tara L. Grahovac, M.D.  Dr. Grahovac, who joined Budway Surgical Associates, Inc. in August, is a breast surgeon with outstanding clinical training in general surgery, breast surgery and the care of women with breast cancer.

A native of Brookline, Dr. Grahovac graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. After majoring in pre-medical studies at Ohio University in Athens, Dr. Grahovac earned her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed her residency in general surgery at Allegheny General Hospital, taking two years from her residency to concentrate on research at UPMC’s McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. With a special interest in soft tissue reconstruction, she focused on techniques that use human stem cells derived from fat tissue for wound healing and on the use of fat grafting in reconstructive surgery. In 2014, she was awarded a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, where she gained proficiency in the most advanced breast cancer diagnostics and treatment.

“Breast cancer is a dynamic and complex field,” says Dr. Grahovac. “There are constant advances in treatment, surgery and imaging technology. I’m driven by the need to keep up with it all, to be able to bring to my patients the latest knowledge so that they are getting the most cutting edge care possible.”

She and Dr. Budway have a similar style, with a practice that is patient-centered. “When I was in my general residency, I had an opportunity to work at St. Clair as an intensivist in the Intensive Care Unit. I love the culture of St. Clair.”

Dr. Grahovac lives in Mt. Lebanon with her husband, Erik, and their two young children.
