St. Clair and Medical Rescue

St. Clair Health is Mt. Lebanon’s largest employer. St. Clair Hospital is an independent, 329-bed acute-care medical center that provides advanced, high-quality health care to the residents of southwestern Pennsylvania. St. Clair is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network—the only Mayo Clinic partner hospital in the Pittsburgh region.
St. Clair Health has 600 physicians and 2,500 employees, a number that will increase upon the completion of its new 280,000-square foot Dunlap Family Outpatient Center on Bower Hill Road, which is expected to open this spring. St. Clair Health also has two additional outpatient centers: one in Peters Township and on at Village Square in Bethel Park.
With services for residents at each stage of their lives, St. Clair is focused on continuously enhancing its services and technologies to ensure that the community’s health needs are met.
The health system offers an array of inpatient and outpatient services, including advanced cardiovascular services; specialized care for women and children; oncology services; orthopedics; emergency care; urgent care; and psychiatry and mental health services.
Over the past year, St. Clair Health played an integral role in treating and mitigating the spread of the coronavirus in Mt. Lebanon, from administering vaccines to the public to offering the newest treatment methods and trials through their partnership with the Mayo Clinic.
St. Clair is a top-level performer in patient safety, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and value. This year, the hospital earned its 17th consecutive ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog, a hospital safety watchdog organization, for hospital safety, and it ranks at the top in patient satisfaction throughout the nation. St. Clair was also recognized by IBM Watson as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals, marking the sixth time it has achieved this prestigious honor. St. Clair Hospital was also recently honored to become part of the inaugural class of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s (HAP) Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program.

Medical Rescue Team South Authority (MRTSA) provides ambulance and emergency medical services to six South Hills communities, including Mt. Lebanon. MRTSA serves roughly 74,000 residents across a 14.38-square-mile area that also includes Baldwin Township, Castle Shannon, Dormont, Green Tree and Whitehall.
In the last year, MRTSA responded to more than 9,570 dispatches and transported 5,248 people. MRTSA has 34 employees, including 16 full-time paramedics, three part-time paramedics, seven full-time EMTs and eight part-time EMTs.
In addition to ambulance services, MRTSA is committed to continuous improvement of preventative and dynamic health care services. When conditions allow, the authority offers classes and programs including CPR, first aid and Stop The Bleed. MRTSA also provides medical standby coverage at sporting events for the communities they serve, an EMS bike team and an honor guard for community events.
This year, MRTSA is focused on reinvesting in its equipment, protocols, training and staff, with more than $2 million in capital improvements planned over the next five years. Their ambulance fleet is being replaced and outfitted with industry-best technology and equipment. Physical improvements scheduled for the stations will allow staff to operate and respond to calls more efficiently.
This year, MRTSA has made some adjustments to its membership fees and coverage levels. A membership with MRTSA costs $60 for an individual, $80 for a household and $100 for a business membership. A membership pays 50 percent of what your insurance does not cover for ambulance services.
MRTSA is a nonprofit, 501c3 municipal authority with two representatives from each community making up the board of directors.
