South Hills Chorale Director Passes the Baton

Choral Director Skylar

Following the retirement of South Hills Chorale music director Phil Aley at the end of the winter concert season, the chorale chose assistant director Skylar Bunk as his successor. Bunk makes his debut as music director at the chorale’s Spring 2023 concert, Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13.

Aley filled the post for 10 years, with Bunk serving as assistant director and accompanist for eight years. Bunk holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University, where he studied piano, voice, and choral conducting. He is a faculty member at the Center for Theater Arts,  and he is the director of music ministry at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Mt. Lebanon.

The 90-member nonprofit South Hills Chorale was founded 62 years ago to provide an opportunity for adults to develop and share their choral talents by performing at various venues throughout Western Pennsylvania.

The South Hills Chorale will perform its spring concert And So We Sing, at 7 p.m., Friday, May 12 and 2 p.m., Saturday, May 13 at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park. Tickets are $20 and can be bought at the door or online.
