Skeletons and scarecrows
Mt. Lebanon residents don’t take Halloween lightly. Walk through any neighborhood today and you’ll find impressive displays, ranging from autumnal and cute to creepy and sinister. One Lebo student even created an entire walkthrough haunted house, right in his backyard. Trick-or-treat is just a few nights away. Let’s look at the scariest scenes, that just may be on your block.
First up is Jessica Lutz’s lively graveyard. Skeletons with lit-up rib cages tower over this Folkstone Drive residence. Three witches brew an ominous green-blue potion, ghosts line the fence and archway entrance, and torches burn between headstones.
Acrisure Stadium or Jon Young’s front yard? Hoodridge Drive is transformed into a Pitt Panther halftime show, with a full cheerleading team and Panther mascot — they might be a little older than your typical college student though.
This Bradley Court front porch glows in shades of orange, purple and green, outlining various Halloween guests. Suspiciously happy skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins and an alien welcome you to Harris Schwartz’s home.
Gus and Jane Kokanos have a tamer fall-themed display. A friendly scarecrow sits on their front porch bench, next to a cornucopia, pumpkin pillow and sunflowers. Red mums and wreaths accent the autumnal space.
Katie Sharon’s family began building a Halloween cemetery during the pandemic and continue to add to their annual display. The newest addition is a homemade hearse, which Katie’s husband built last year. The cemetery glows blue and red, with full-size ghosts floating about the front yard on Morrison Drive.
You might recognize the unusual biker at Jessica Mancosh’s home. The animated skeleton is sporting full biking attire, ready to join the traffic on Cochran Road. In the foreground, another massive skeleton proudly holds a Terrible Towel.
Jonathan and Lauren Cohen went all-out for their first Halloween living in Lebo. Another new gravesite popped up on Firwood Drive, with skeletons of varying sizes and species. The Groundbreaker is emerging from the dirt, with a head bigger than the windows behind it, while Skelly the Dog stands guard at the front door.
