senko appointed treasurer

Mt. Lebanon commissioners unanimously appointed Thornberry Circle resident Joseph T. Senko as acting treasurer through January 4, 2016. Longtime treasurer John Ferguson was on the ballot but died before the election.

Senko, a 45-year resident of Mt. Lebanon, has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting from Duquesne University and a master’s  degree in taxation from Robert Morris University. He is a certified public accountant, a certified financial planner, a personal financial specialist and a chartered global management accountant.

Senko has served on the Mt. Lebanon Library board and the parking authority, and for the last 18 years has been treasurer for Brother’s Brother Foundation, the country’s 34th largest foundation, with revenue of $256 million. He also has served in more than a dozen nonprofit organizations, including the Western Pennsylvania Slovak Cultural Association, the Children’s Festival Chorus and the Duquesne University Accounting Advisory Board. He and his wife, Albina, have six children and eight grandchildren.

“I am always looking for opportunities to use my past experience to help others,” he says. “I think that with my background, I can help the municipality with any accounting or financial problems that may come up.”

The treasurer is in charge of depositing all funds for the municipality and also historically has served as the school district’s tax collector. At press time the school board has yet to discuss naming it’s new tax collector.
