Senior Send-Off

As they close the books on their high school careers, graduating seniors from Mt. Lebanon’s class of 2024 donned their caps and gowns on Monday and received a special senior send-off from elementary students throughout the district.

Elementary school students lined the halls of Washington, where the Class of 2024 stood a decade before.

At Washington Elementary School, 735 Washington Road, current students lined the hallways, chanting “let’s go seniors, let’s go,” as more than 50 alums paraded through the place where their education journey began.

There were lots of high-fives and applause, as well as hugs from former teachers. “It’s awesome. It takes you back to when they were in your classroom. I had this class in 2015-2016,” said fourth-grade teacher Kim Robbins.

“It’s smaller than I remember,” said Washington Elementary alum Jacey Ellis. Riya Verma agreed. “Everything is so much smaller and cuter. I forgot how little we were,” she said.

Students and their former teachers reunited one last time.

The stroll down memory lane ended in a reception in the school courtyard, where parents hugged their kids and the teachers they hadn’t seen in years. Then, it was off to the school entrance for one final group photo.

It’s the first time the senior send-off was done simultaneously district-wide. The Mt. Lebanon School District hopes to make this an annual tradition.
