Savoring Summer: Dining and Unwinding Outdoors

Relax and enjoy your summer outdoors

When summer rolls around, I make an effort to embrace the warm weather and late sunsets while I can. This year, as a new Mt. Lebanon resident, I made it a priority to discover local spots in our walkable neighborhood to enjoy food and drinks outside. Each spot has its own unique ambiance that you can add to your summer rotation. Here are some of my favorites.

The Saloon

The Saloon

622 Washington Road

A longstanding Lebo establishment, The Saloon is the perfect place to watch a sunset on the rooftop with a classic Pittsburgh salad. The rooftop is a hidden gem that can be accessed using the stairs at the back of the restaurant. I always enjoy going upstairs to watch the Pirates play with the sunset in the background. You’ll get a great view of our town. The Pittsburgh vibes are unmatched!

Bado’s

307 Beverly Road

A comfy spot where I felt like I was in my own backyard was the Bado’s Rooftop on Beverly. If you’re lucky you might even catch some live music up there! It’s the perfect place to have the Leopold Square Pizza, the dad’s original recipe with a refreshing citrus beer or lemonade.

Milk Bread French Toast at Mediterra

Mediterra

292 Beverly Road

Right across the street on Beverly is the city-chic outdoor patio of Mediterra. On a nice and sunny morning I enjoyed the french toast and the cereal milk latte, later in the week I even went back to try the Summer Sangria during their new extended hours (5 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday). The new hours feature a dinner menu and you can always get daily updates of the menu’s on their Instagram. This summer they now have a lobster roll so you can channel New England vibes on the patio!

Hitchhiker Brewing Co.

190 Castle Shannon Boulevard

When I’m looking to snack, relax and maybe even meet some furry friends, the outdoor patio at Hitchhiker is my place of choice. Their usual menu is light snacks (and of course beer) but they have a food truck calendar on their website as well. Just make sure you’re looking at Mt. Lebanon and not Sharpsburg! It’s the perfect neighborhood spot to relax and have fun with friends.

Needless to say, no matter what vibe I was looking for, I was always able to find the perfect place to dine and unwind outdoors. The best part is that the summer is just beginning, I can’t wait to uncover more outdoor dining to enjoy in Mt. Lebanon.

Do you have any suggestions? I’d love to hear them and give them a try. Check back for Part 2!
