ollier’s Hardware is celebrating a big anniversary this year. The family owned and operated business will mark 70 years in Mt. Lebanon with summertime events.
After spinning off from Rollier Brothers Plumbing and Hardware in Shadyside, four generations of Satterfields have been at the helm of Rollier’s Hardware in Mt. Lebanon since 1953. Derek and Brett Satterfield are running things these days, while their father, Doug, continues working there as well. “These kids were all born, raised and lived in Mt. Lebanon. From the day they were born, they’ve been Mt. Lebanonites,” Doug said.
From the days of the original South Hills location at the corner of McFarland and Beverly Road in what was formerly the first A&P Supermarket west of the Alleghenies which later became the landmark Big Red Barn, to the current 50,000-square-foot store taking up an entire city block, Rollier’s prides itself on product selection and customer care. “We’re a traditional hardware store, but we’re more than just hardware. We know what Pittsburghers need. We know what your house is like. We know right down to the stems of your faucets what’s popular in Mt. Lebanon,” said Doug.
“We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished,” Doug added, pointing out a number of employees have worked for 45 or 50 years before retiring from Rollier’s.
A number of festivities are in the works to celebrate Rollier’s anniversary, including events every weekend in August, in warm weather and outdoor spaces. “We will be posting a timeline in our store shortly and putting up some historical photos in time for our busier spring push,” said Derek.
A “Thank You to the Local Community” concert is planned for Sunday, August 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Rollier’s parking lot, with food trucks, ice cream, drinks, and entertainment by the Good Guys Band.
