f your New Year’s resolution is to read more, because of course it is, not only can you find the books at Mt. Lebanon Public Library, you can also find people who like to talk about what they’ve read. Two new groups will be joining Mt Lebanon Public Library’s lineup of book discussion groups in 2025. Print copies of all titles will be available at the circulation desk one month prior to each book group meeting date. A limited number of copies are also available via the library’s digital book platform Boundless, which is free to all Mt. Lebanon card holders. Stop by for a few sessions or attend them all.
The Toni Morrison Book Group will meet at 7 p.m., the second Tuesday of the month, starting January 14. Read and then discuss the novels of this Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning American author. Books to be discussed include The Bluest Eye, Sula, Beloved, Jazz, and A Mercy.
The Good Place Philosophy Book Club If you are a fan of The Good Place TV show, which ran for four seasons on NBC, and is available on several streaming services, you know the character Chidi Anagonye read a lot of philosophy books. In this book club, you’ll get a chance to read and discuss some of the books he mentioned on the show. The group meets at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, starting on January 16. Books to be discussed include Natural Goodness by Philippa Foot, How Good People Make Tough Choices by Rushworth Kidder, and I’m Judging You: The Do-Better Manual by Luuvie Ajayi.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear A group that discusses Shakespeare’s plays, meets at 7 p.m., the third Thursday of every month from February through May, and September through November. This year’s plays include Hamlet, Love’s Labour’s Lost and Othello. Also for Shakespeare lovers: Shakespeare Readers reads and discusses the works of the Bard at 10:30 a.m., every other Monday through the first Monday in June.
Green Reads, sponsored by the Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy, explores books about nature, conservation, and environmental action. Check the library’s calendar for dates and titles.
The Historical Haven is a morning group for adults that delves into the world of historical fiction. Check the library calendar for dates and titles.
Eye on the Prize meets at 7 p.m., the second Monday of the month, January through May and September through November. The group will discuss the 2024 winners of eight literary prizes, from the Pulitzer to the National Book Award. Check the library’s calendar for titles.

Mystery lovers get a twofer: Mystery Readers meets at 7 p.m., the third Thursday of the month, and Cozy Mystery Book Group, meets at 7 p.m., the first Tuesday.
The library also offers several non-sponsored books groups that are run by outside moderators. Participants are responsible for finding their own copies of the reading materials. These groups include Early American History, 10 a.m., the second Thursday of the month; World War II Era Discussion, 10 a.m., the second Monday of the month and the Science Fiction Book Group, 7 p.m., the fourth Wednesday of the month.
