Whether you’re new to town or a longtime resident, consider signing up for the fifth annual Mt. Lebanon Residents Academy, a free nine-week overview of local programs and services sponsored by the Mt. Lebanon Community Relations Board (CRB). The first session is Thursday, January 6, 2022.

The municipality created the academy to complement Mt. Lebanon’s successful fire and police academies. It provides a broad introduction to all aspects of local government, giving participants a look at the community’s successes and challenges, as well as an appreciation of how tax dollars are spent.

This year’s academy will be in person. Academy participants will hear from various municipal departments and related agencies as well as the school district in two-hour sessions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on nine Thursdays from January 6 to March 3.

The Mt. Lebanon Residents Academy is an interactive, participatory program rather than a lecture series and each week has plenty of opportunity for questions and answers.
All municipal departments will participate, with several sharing a two-hour slot. Topics will include finance, economic development, fire and police, communications, parks and recreation, public works, zoning and library services. Medical Rescue Team South, Mt. Lebanon School District, Animal Control and other service providers will also give presentations.

The program is free, but slots are limited to keep the group size practical and agile. All previous classes filled to capacity quickly, creating a waiting list for the following year’s academy.
