Mt. Lebanon’s proud tradition of golf dates back to July 4, 1907, when a group of 30 men founded the Castle Shannon Golf Club on a 100-acre farm and persisted with the sport despite having to dodge moving targets, such as cows and horses. Today, Mt. Lebanon’s 99-acre, par 35 public course is a center of community activity where more than 25,000 rounds of golf are played each year.
Maintained by a professional greenskeeper, the course is home to a number of organizations, including the Keystone Oaks and Mt. Lebanon high school golf teams. Its facilities include a pro shop with cart rental, refreshments, men’s and ladies locker rooms and other amenities. Several charity golf outings are held at the course each year.

The Recreation Department maintains a total of 15 tennis courts, including four platform tennis courts, at the Tressel Tennis Center near the Cedar Boulevard entrance to Mt. Lebanon Park. With the use of tennis “bubbles,” many of these courts become indoor courts from October through April.
The tennis center also has a pro shop for the sale of racquets and accessories and racket
restringing.
Lessons are available year-round, including group and private lessons for all age groups and abilities, and many leagues call the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center home.
You can buy a summer pass at the recreation department, ice rink or tennis center (after the outdoor courts open around May 1). For regular admission fees or information on league play, call 412-343-4311 or visit www.mtlebanon.org.
The recreation department also maintains courts at Williamsburg Park off Sleepy Hollow Road and Meadowcroft Park on North Meadowcroft Avenue. There is no charge for use of these courts.
