POLICE PROMOTIONS Three Mt. Lebanon police officers have been promoted to corporal. Ben Himan, Ty Kegarise and Tom Rutowski will serve as first-line supervisors in the department’s patrol division.
Himan started his law enforcement career in 2001 with the Ocean City, Maryland, Police Department. After a stint with the Durham, North Carolina, Police Department, Himan came to Mt. Lebanon in 2008. He is the department’s K-9 handler with his partner, Snieper, and is also a certified drone pilot and serves as the lead officer in the MLPD’s newly established drone program.
Kegarise joined the MLPD in 2014. In addition to his patrol responsibilities, Kegarise serves on the SHACOG Crash Team, responsible for investigating serious and fatal crashes in the South Hills. Prior to becoming a police officer, Kegarise was a captain in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.
Rutowski is a 22-year veteran of the MLPD who has served in various assignments throughout his career including the investigations unit, SHACOG CIRT negotiator and a field training officer. He has been recognized numerous times throughout his career, including five lifesaver awards and 2019’s MLPD Officer of the Year.
LOOK UP, LEBO At press time, the status of a resumption of in-person classes in the Mt. Lebanon School District was not certain, but it never hurts to review basic back-to-school safety.
Give yourself plenty of time in the morning, so you’re not tempted to speed. Be patient. Impatience leads to aggressive driving, pedestrian and bicycle collisions and gridlock. Remind your kids to observe safe practices.
