BEAR SCAVENGER HUNT Looking for something fun to do with your littles this summer? The Mt. Lebanon Police Department’s K-9 unit is launching a fun new scavenger hunt with K-9 officer Bear for elementary and middle school kiddos.

You can find trading cards for Bear, a scent discriminate bloodhound, at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library, Mineo’s Pizza and Scoops on Beverly. Collect all three and head to the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Center, 555 Washington Road, to collect a prize. A grand prize winner will be selected for an extra special surprise. “It’s a neat way to connect with the kids,” K-9 officer Dan McBride said. The program runs though August 16.

2023 CAR SHOW The Mt. Lebanon Police Department’s annual Classic Car Show is back for the 27th year on Sunday, July 9. The rain or shine event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 600 and 700 blocks of Washington Road. The free event includes food, vendors and live music and is sponsored by the Mt. Lebanon Police Department, Mt. Lebanon Police Association, Dormont-Mt. Lebanon-Castle Shannon Rotary Club, Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department and Pontiac Oakland Club of Western PA. Proceeds benefit police youth programs.

The Mt. Lebanon Public Library, in coordination with the fire department, will host a Touch-a-Truck event from 9 a.m. to noon on Alfred Street. Stop by to see a police SWAT truck, ambulance, fire trucks and utility vehicles.

ROCK THE BLOCK  Rock the Block with Public Safety is back with two events this summer! There’s lots of fun, food and excitement planned for the entire family. Stop by Hoover Elementary School on June 24 and Markham on August 12. The event runs from 12 to 3 p.m.

LOOK UP LEBO School is letting out, which means lots of tiny feet and their grown-up counterparts will be walking through the neighborhood. Be careful as you drive along your normal routes and keep your cell phones down. And remember to go the speed limit.

CITIZENS FIRE ACADEMY The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department is busy planning the 2023 Citizens Fire Academy. The program runs from September 13 to November 10. Fill out an application on their website.

SLOW DOWN Lights. Sirens. A car crash on the side of the road can become a distraction that can take your eyes off the road. Slow down. Give space, said fire department Lt. Steve Noorbakhsh. The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department is asking drivers to be mindful of their safety. Yield to fire trucks and emergency vehicles, stay out of the way and let them do their job.

“Just pay attention,” Noorbakhsh said.
