Peep-le’s Choice Awards Announced

The Peep-le have spoken!

The winners of Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s ninth annual Peep-le’s Choice Awards were announced Wednesday.

This year’s Peeps Diorama contest featured dozens of creative entries in five categories: Family, Adult, Teen, Kids 7-10, and Kids 6 & under.

The event challenges contestants to create book-themed dioramas using fluffy, gooey Peeps. Shoeboxes and empty tissue boxes are frequent backdrops.

First and second place winners get prize baskets full of seasonal goodies, books and Peep-themed treats. Each diorama recieves a superlative award with descriptions like “best special effects,” “most creative use of materials,” “most festive,” “most action packed,” even one termed “best zombies.”

Children’s librarian Dana Jones came up with the idea for the marshmallow Peeps event. Harry Potter, James and the Giant Peach, Dr. Seuss and The Lorax tend to be recurring themes, but children’s librarian Rachel Blier loves to be surprised. “I’m always astonished by the creativity and ideas,” she said, and points out the library is the perfect spot to bring people together through creativity and the love of books.

The winners can pick up their prizes and claim their dioramas at the Children’s Desk.
