Continuing the Journey: Dining and Unwinding Outdoors
As summer has continued, so has my search for places to savor the warm weather outdoors. From breakfast to drinks on the patio, I found it all just a short distance from home.
Atria’s Restaurant [2], 110 Beverly Road
One of the recommendations I visited first was a long-standing establishment that has been in Lebo since the 1930s and in it’s current form since 1998. Atria’s has a beautiful patio with tables situated under bright red umbrellas, surrounded by shrubs and twinkling lights. It was the perfect place to enjoy their limited Summer BBQ items or French Rose—a cocktail that, when I was there, donated $2 to support the medical expenses of a child battling leukemia.
Bird On The Run [3], 1573 McFarland Road
Not new to Pittsburgh but a new location to Mt. Lebanon, Bird on the Run is a new favorite restaurant of mine. Because life is all about balance, I walked here after playing pickleball one summer night to indulge in a chicken sandwich with waffle fries. If you’re a fan of a classic Nashville chicken sandwich, this is definitely a new must-try! If you go in the evening you might get to see an awesome sunset like I did, as well.
KingView Meadhouse and Winery [4], 101 Beverly Road
Newer to Lebo is KingView Meadhouse and Winery. My friends and I went here for a girls’ night looking to try some wine flights, snack on some savory dips and appetizers and listen to some live music! They have a beautiful patio with umbrellas to enjoy the sunshine. They are hosting some fun events coming up in August including Trivia (August 16), as well as a variety of live music performers on August 10, 17, 24 and 31.
Coffee Tree Roasters [5], 299 Beverly Road
One of my guilty pleasures all year-round is a vanilla latte from Coffee Tree Roasters, and it’s even more special when it can be enjoyed outside on their patio. On any given morning you’ll likely find friends gathering to start their day while relaxing with coffee here. I always find that waking up extra early to give myself more time to enjoy the little things and not start my day in a rush sets me up for success. A pro-tip for you is that you can pre-order Oram’s donuts to pick up on Thursdays using their online ordering!
East End Brewing Company [6], 651 Washington Road
If there’s one thing Pittsburgh does right, it’s breweries, and now we have one right on Washington Road with outdoor tables and chairs. East End opened its Lebo taproom in March, but they have been making beers for 18 years. They have year-round beers, seasonal beers and one-offs, so every time I go it’s a new adventure with new beers to try. One of the coolest aspects of this brewery is that they have a different beer for almost every neighborhood in Pittsburgh. Our friend’s in Brookline’s beer is the #76 Pacific IPA. Check our their list of “You Are Here Beers” on their website. [7]
P&G Pamela’s Diner, [8] 427 Washington Road
One Pittsburgh long-standing breakfast classic is Pamela’s. I have been going here since I was a little kid—indulging in the chocolate chip banana hotcakes. In the summer, it’s nice to sit outside and listen to the occasional church bells from St. Bernard church. It’s been quite hot lately so I have been switching out my hot chocolate for chocolate milk when I sit outside but it’s delicious nonetheless!
