Grant Wilson, retired Mt. Lebanon Fire Department Platoon Chief, was honored at the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast. Wilson received an award for his longtime commitment to the Red Cross. In addition to responding to local home fires and other disasters, Wilson plays a key role in government relations and disaster planning for the Red Cross. In that capacity, he helped develop the Community Evacuation Center Team, a program that trains community volunteers to quickly and efficiently open a Red Cross shelter in times of emergency. Wilson also teaches disaster training classes. Wilson retired in 2004 as the chief of the fire prevention platoon.

Three projects designed by Bradley Brown Design Group for Winchester, Virginia-based American Woodmark Corporation have been selected as winners in the 2012 American Graphic Design Awards competition. Bradley Brown, owned by Hoodridge Drive resident Susie Bradley, received Certificates of Excellence for catalogs produced for the company’s Shenandoah and American Woodmark cabinetry brands, as well as a Shenandoah product launch brochure. The American Graphic Design Awards program is an annual competition sponsored by Graphic Design USA magazine to recognize excellence in graphic design.

Woodhaven Drive resident Charles Kenrick has been named chair of the board of directors of Familylinks, a nonprofit that offers services focused on behavioral, social and developmental health issues. Kenrick, a board member for the past four years, is an attorney in private practice. Gwyn Cready, Atlanta Drive, has been named to the Familylinks board. Cready, a marketing and communication professional, is also the author of six romance novels.

Effie Alexanderhas joined the law firm of Dickie McCamey as a principal. A 1985 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Alexander specializes in family law. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner in the law firm Reich, Alexander & Demas.

Woodhaven Drive resident Kathy Henry is the director of marketing for Estate Innovations, a new business focused on assisting in the process of selling an estate. Henry works out of her Mt. Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild on the North Side is hosting an exhibit of original cartoons and illustrations by Atlanta Drive resident Wayno through January 4. “Flat Files: Illustration & Cartoon Art, by Wayno,” features examples of the pop artist’s flat files—works not originally intended to be displayed on gallery walls. These illustrations, executed in India ink on artist’s paper, offer a peek into the artist’s process. Wayno’s connection with MCG began with his love of jazz. Last year, Wayno created illustrations for “The Jazz Buffet,” the 2012-13 MCG Jazz season. A free artist talk and gallery reception is 6 p.m., Wednesday, November 14. www.mcgyouthandarts.org.
