The Rev. Jim Magaw is the new pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills on Washington Road. Magaw, 53, was just ordained last year. Previously, Magaw worked in fundraising and communication for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and also was a musician and songwriter. An Ohio native, Magaw looks forward to returning to the area, with his wife, Marta and their 9-year-old daughter, Ella, after spending more than 20 years in North Carolina.

William Byham, Pueblo Drive, was honored with a St. Barnabas Leadership award. The awards are presented to Pittsburgh business leaders in each of three categories—small, medium and large companies—who have made an impact on Western Pennsylvania. Byham, Chairman and CEO of Development Dimensions International, received the award in the large company category. DDI, co-founded by Byham in 1970, is a talent management consultant firm, advising companies on hiring, promotion and workforce development practices.

C. Robert Keenan III has joined the law firm of Thomas, Thomas & Hafer as a partner in the firm’s Pittsburgh office. Keenan has more than 35 years of experience representing employers, municipalities, and insurers in workers’ compensation and general liability cases, as well as other business related matters.

Cancer struck close to home for eighth-grader Taylor Goldtrap, who lost a cousin to the disease last year after a long fight. She remembered how much an iPad helped her cousin pass time while in the hospital and wanted kids undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital to have the same opportunity.

Taylor, who lives on Arrowood Drive, saw a commercial for booster.com, a company that prints and sells custom T-shirts for fundraising projects, and used the site to raise $389, which she used to purchase an iPad to donate to Children’s Hospital.

“I’m so proud of my daughter,” say mom Celene Goldtrap. “She’s always had a huge heart.”
