LOOKING FOR USED CLOTHES We know it’s way too soon to be thinking about this, but Mt. Lebanon High School and the Mt. Lebanon Police Association are partnering with The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple on McNeilly Road for a back-to-school kids’ clothing drive on Saturday, June 5.
Bring your gently used clothes to the Southminster Presbyterian Church parking lot between 9 a.m and 1 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to receive your donations of gently used kids clothing and shoes for grades K-12. Items in particular demand include kid’s jeans, shorts, polos, sweatshirts, sneakers, dress shoes and dress clothes.
The drive typically brings in about 100 boxes and bags of clothing, which the Salvation Army will redistribute in August as part of its Project Backpack, which provides kids with backpacks filled with school supplies.
LAST CHANCE TO GIVE South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) is entering the final phase of its Do More Good campaign. The campaign was launched in October 2018 to fund improvements to SHIM’s programs and infrastructure, a need that became more apparent during the pandemic, which resulted in a 61 percent increase in requests to SHIM for assistance.
Through individual donations and several foundations—Jefferson Regional, Richard King Mellon, Eden Hall and The Pittsburgh Foundation—the campaign has brought in $5.4 million so far.
“Because of our incredible donors, we have been able to provide the basics our community desperately requires,” said Jim Guffey, SHIM’s Executive Director.

ST. CLAIR HEALTH HONORED For the fourth consecutive year, St. Clair Health has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Fortune/IBM Watson Health. Selection criteria include patient safety, quality, patient satisfaction, operational efficiency and community engagement. St. Clair is one of only 16 hospitals nationwide, and the only regional hospital to receive the honor four times in a row.
