The municipal website [1] looks pretty good for its age, but every now and then, a little makeover and wardrobe change are a great thing.
Mt. Lebanon’s Information Technology department has teamed with the Public Information Office to overhaul the site, in cooperation with vendor CivicPlus, the company that has helped us with our website for more than 10 years. The site received a complete re-do five years ago, but in that time, websites, government services and residents’ needs have continued to evolve.
The redesign is under way now and will be completed shortly after the new year. High atop the list of priorities is making the site what techies call “responsive.” That’s a fancy way of saying you’ll be able to read the site well no matter what device you’re using: a desktop, a smartphone, a tablet. The layout will be clean and easy to read and the navigation will be easy to understand.
Another priority is making it easier to find materials you want to read. It’s good to have a lot of information on the site, but sometimes, too much information organized in a less-than-intuitive way makes it take longer than it should to find things. We’re working to fix that and make sure you can get online and get what you need quickly.
We also have a lot of issues that residents and business owners want to know about. You should be able to go to the site and get timely updates on projects and issues so you can easily stay informed. The new site will treat news as a cornerstone.
You’ll still be able to do all the things you need to do: register for recreation programs, watch public meetings, check out agendas and minutes, submit service requests through My Lebo and pay for things like parking tickets.
