The recreation department reports that the rink will be closed on Easter.

There will be a golf outing to benefit Relay for Life of Mt. Lebanon at the Mt. Lebanon Golf Course on Saturday, April 21. There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. If you are interested in golfing, e-mail Brian Schieman at bjschieman@yahoo. The actual Relay for Life event will be held June 9-10 this year. Police, fire and recreation met with Relay for Life organizers this week to discuss logistics for the event. Speaking of golf, the golf course is off to a good start this year: So far, 2,580 rounds have been played on the course this year, bringing in revenue totaling $38,891. Revenue for the last two years combined at this point in the season was $33,186.

Hank Hughes and the tennis staff are prepping the courts in anticipation of the court resurfacing contractor’s arrival on April 9. Adult tennis clinics are filling quickly as usual. Two more classes have been added to accommodate additional participants. Check out all the rec department’s programs at www.mtlebanon.org.

Mt. Lebanon received a couple of grants for environmental improvement. The Local Government Academy came through with a $5,000 grant for a greenhouse gas inventory update. A proposal submitted by Duquesne University and Seeds proposes to match the $5,000 grant with $33,000 worth of in-kind services.  The state Department of Environmental Protection awarded a $6,000 grant to the municipality to be used to explore recycling options. The environmental sustainability advisory board will play a key role in the grant activities. Check out future issues of mtl magazine for more details on these and other environmental initiatives.

The fire department responded to 26 incidents this week, including assisting  Dormont at a house fire on Grandin Avenue and responing to a flash fire caused by spilled gasoline on Beverly Road. Other incidents included six hazardous condition calls, four service calls and eight false alarms. Several firefighters are attending a structural burn class this week at the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy in Lewistown.

The police department reports a passel of drunk driving arrests: A 24-year-old Mt. Lebanon Boulevard man was arrested on Castle Shannon Boulevard; a 22-year-old Pittsburgh woman was arrested on McNeilly Road; a 34-year-old Pittsburgh man was arrested on Washington Road; a 29-year-old Roycroft Avenue man was arrested on Washington Road; and  30-year-old Scott Township woman was arrested for DUI on Bower Hill Road. Drug arrests this week included two Finleyville men who were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia on Scott Road; a 43-year-old Margaretta Avenue resident who was arrested on Rockwood Avenue on various drug charges; and a 71-year-old Rockwood Avenue woman was arrested on drug charges.
