Public works crews were called out to four emergency sewer calls. The rest of the week’s activity included manhole inspections, and cleaning and inspection of sanitary lines. The crews are getting the town ready for spring, with park and shelter cleanup, planting bed mulching in Mt. Lebanon Park in the playground area and cleaning and grooming infields at Dixon and Middle fields.

Sale of pool passes have already eclipsed last year’s total, and it isn’t even baseball season yet. The sales to date are over $19,000, compared with not quite $11,000 last year. You can still get a 20 percent discount on passes until March 31.

The police department reports seven arrests: five for drugs or drinking and one each for disorderly conduct and using false ID. And, surprisingly enough, no arrests on St. Patrick’s Day. There were five accidents, including two two hit-and-runs; three reports of criminal mischief, all to parked cars; three thefts, all from inside apartments or bedroom dressers; and one report of fraud, one mental health commitment, and a protection from abuse order.

The fire department responded to 32 calls this week, including a small front porch roof fire on Altadena, an assist for a kitchen fire in Dormont and three local cooking fires. The department also responded to an extrication of a three-year-old whose finger got caught in the rear sprocket of a bicycle.

Nine firefighters passed their national certification test in health and safety.
