municipal manager’s report

If you believe the lies the calendar is telling, it would have you believe that it is still winter. We are proclaiming spring; actually late spring, or maybe even early summer. And here’s the proof:

Apparently a lot of people were playing hooky on Wednesday, when the temps reached the mid 70s and the sun stuck around long enough for everyone to get a good look. Of the 258 rounds played at the golf course this week, 169 of them happened on Wednesday.

And congratulations to Dave Boal, manager of Mt. Lebanon Golf Course, who received his certification from the United States Golf Association to become a golf handicap administrator. Certification requirements include a two-hour training session and passing the U.S.G.A. Handicap Administrator’s test.

Further proof that it’s most likely summer right now:

Season swim passes went on sale on March 1. The department has sold $8,623 in passes so far. If you buy your pass anytime in April, you receive a 10 percent discount. Check out page 62 of mtl for more information.

Because so many new vendors want to set up at the Saturday morning Uptown Farmers Market, the market will be expanding to include the South Parking Lot, across the street from Washington School.  The event will be on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon,  May 19 to October 20.

Okay, we believe we’ve proven our case.  It’s now late spring, possibly early summer. Moving on:

Beginning on Monday, the school district will be closing the upper end of Morgan Drive for several weeks to replace some sewer lines. There will still be access into the recreation center lot from Morgan.

On Tuesday night, the fire department assisted Dormont at a fire in a three-story apartment building on West Liberty Avenue. The new ladder truck was forced into action to provide roof access and fire suppression. Other fire calls this week included a cooking accident, three vehicle accidents, one overheated light ballast and a chemical emergency in an apartment on Castle Shannon Boulevard.

The police report several arrests for disorderly conduct and citations for underage drinking; an arrest on N. Meadowcroft for DUI and contempt of court; an arrest for failing to comply with the sex offenders’ registration requirement; one mental health commitment to St. Clair Hospital and one protection from abuse order issued to a resident.
