SOME FACTS AND FIGURES FROM THE WEEK:
The fire department responded to 31 incidents this week, including a house fire on S. Meadowcroft that started in a fireplace and extended to an interior wall, causing about $40,000 in damages. There were also three chimney fires and a cooking fire. Other calls this week were a carbon monoxide incident caused by workers operating a gasoline-powered generator inside a building that was being renovated, five rescue and emergency medical incidents and seven false alarms.
The public works department was called out four times last week for snow and ice control, twice on Friday and twice on Saturday, using a total of 736 tons of rock salt and 480 gallons of liquid calcium.
Police arrested a 31-year-old male for burglary, criminal mischief, and receiving stolen property; and a 21-year-old male for theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and writing bad checks.
At the Ice Center, the Pittsburgh Puffins will play the Cleveland Heights Falcons in a women’s hockey game on Saturday, February 25, at 8 p.m.
