Meet the library artists: Whitehall Arts

In this new LeboMag.com exclusive series, we will be featuring a Q&A with the artists who have their work on display in the Mt. Lebanon Public Library each month. The library has galleries in the upper and lower hallways, along with display cases that are best for smaller works. The upper gallery is booked through March 2025. Interested in displaying your work? Check out the guidelines here!

Name: Whitehall Arts

Location: Members live across the South Hills

Where/when can your art be found in the Mt. Lebanon Public Library? August 2023 in the Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s upper gallery.

Art form: Multiple media including: acrylic, collage, mosaic, oil, pastel and watercolor.

How did you get into this? Our creative inner selves emerged and we could not bottle them up!

Tell us about your art. Is there a meaning behind it? What emotions do you intend to invoke? Generally our artists interpret the world with a positive spin, looking for beauty in all of nature’s glory.

Why should Mt. Lebanon residents come see your display? People visit art galleries for inspiration and a lift of their spirits. Art enriches people’s lives.

Where else can your work be found? We also exhibit locally in The Galleria’s spring and fall art exhibits.

The next is slated for Oct. 20 to 29 in the lower level.

Whitehall Arts is a group of 10 artists from across the South Hills. Several of the members have been with the group since its 1969 founding by John Johns.

The group was founded with the intent to promote art in the South Hills and create artist connections, as well as to help them exhibit and sell their work. Artists abilities range from beginner to professional.

Many lasting friendships have flourished over the years.  The group of artists has been gathering to paint on Wednesdays for the 35 years.

Whitehall Arts also provides an opportunity for artists to learn from each other and guests artists, along with attending workshops. Interested artists can contact Diane Murray to join: dmurray100@comcast.net.
