Here are a few highlights from the Manager Steve Feller’s June 29 administrative report:

—Progress on the new SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel on Washington Road has been on hold awaiting  a crane to be installed on a platform at the site.  The platform should be in place by July 17 or 18. The much-awaited crane will  arrive and begin its heavy work a few days later.

—The seven-member ad hoc Home Rule Study Committee appointed by the commission has elected Bill Matthews chair and Mary Larsen vice chair. The  committee will be working together for the next year and ultimately will make recommendations regarding possible updates to Mt. Lebanon’s Home Rule Charter, which is sort of like our “constitution.”

—On July 3, Allegheny County Council will present Mt. Lebanon with a proclamation commending  our work in erecting the Veterans Memorial. The proclamation was sponsored by County Councilman Vince Gastgeb and will be accepted by Veterans Memorial Chair Dan Gigler.

—The hot weather is stressing the golf course, necessitating hand-watering of some of the greens.

—173 children are enrolled this week in summer playground camp at four locations. The fire department visited several of the play camp locations this week to review fires safety, provide a tour of the fire truck and “hose down” the children.

—Mt. Lebanon has begun planning  a full-scale emergency management drill (simulation) on Saturday, October 13.  The drill will test the emergency preparedness plans of the school district, St. Clair Hospital and all first responders and municipal employees.

—Fire Chief Nick Sohyda has received his Chief Fire Officer Accreditation (CFO) certification from the Commission on Professional Credentialing.

—AAA Flexible Pipe Cleaning continues cleaning and inspecting sanitary sewer lines. This week they are working in the Woodhaven/Longuevue area.  Niando Construction has finished curb replacement on Driftwood Drive and will begin working on Osage and Valleyview.  Pasquale and Sons continues to replace assessment and root-damaged sidewalk slabs along Hazel Drive.

—Public works crews are removing stumps from trees that have fallen in Williamsburg Park, treating trees for Emerald Ash Borer on Sleepy Hollow and Catalpa and patching asphalt and concrete streets with hot asphalt.

—The irrigation system at Bird Park Field is being improved by adding additional supply lines that will provide better control of coverage and irrigation rates.

—The July/August issue of Mt. Lebanon Magazine should be arriving at homes.  If you do not receive your magazine in the next couple of days, please tell your carrier.  If you consistently fail to receive a magazine, please call Rita at 412-343-3407.

—A consultant provided by a matching grant will be training members of the historic preservation board and a number of volunteers  this Saturday to verify data concerning the age and style of houses that will be considered “contributing” or “noncontributing” to the  proposed district to be submitted to the National Register of Historic Place for consideration.  The municipal IT department has been very helpful in providing the volunteers with mobile access to the database resulting from the cultural resource survey conducted several years ago.  If you see people staring at your house in the coming weeks, it is likely one of our volunteers.
