Magical Messages in Uptown

Volunteer Becca Peluso shows Washington Elementary student Margaret Missenda, 8, how to create designs for the Secret Garden at Clearview Common.

The next time it rains, don’t be surprised if you find secret messages in Clearview Common.

On Saturday, September 16, kids of all ages created a magical secret garden by the fountain in Uptown using a special, invisible, non-toxic paint, which shows up only when it rains or gets wet.

The Mt. Lebanon Partnership collaborated on the event with the Mt. Lebanon Public Library.

“We’re trying to incorporate more children’s events through the Mt. Lebanon Partnership,” said board member Annie Skiba.

“We thought this would be a really great activity for the kids to do,” she added. Plus, Skiba said it’s a way to encourage people to come Uptown.

It worked. Sarah Missenda brought her eight-year-old daughter, Margaret, who’s a student at Washington Elementary School.

“We love doing community activities around Mt. Lebanon and needed to find something to get ourselves out of the house and do something fun today. I thought this looked like a nice opportunity,” Missenda said.

The Mt. Lebanon Partnership plans to hold additional children’s events Uptown, including a Plein Air Kids Paint Out during the Artists’ Market on September 30 and October 1.
