PARKING AMNESTY Parking scofflaws will get a reprieve June 1-20. Anyone with an unpaid parking ticket dating prior to 2012, when Mt. Lebanon Municipality took over parking administration, will be allowed to pay up at face value. That means if you originally were fined $10 for a ticket but now owe $40 because you did not pay within 30 days, you will owe only the original amount. People with outstanding tickets should have received letters. Mail payment or pay in person by June 20 to: Mt. Lebanon Tax Office, 710 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
CUT THE GRASS So the fish are jumping and the cotton is high. Well, if the cotton or anything else gets to be more than six inches, you’re going to have to do some harvesting.
According to the health and safety provisions of Mt. Lebanon’s municipal code, it is the responsibility of the owner of any property, occupied or vacant, to maintain the lawn. If the grass isn’t cut, the owner could receive a citation, and if that doesn’t stimulate action, the municipality can cut your grass for you, billing you for the cost plus a 10 percent penalty.
Other provisions of the code regulate unsanitary waste deposits; garbage; drainage, to avoid creating pools of stagnant water; and the exterior of buildings, to prevent openings that could attract rodents.

YARD WASTE REMOVAL Mt. Lebanon’s yard waste pickup program returns Saturdays, June 16 and September 15. You can set out shrubs, tree branches and tree limbs with the leaves removed. If you want to take advantage of this free service, you need to call the public works department before 4:30 p.m., the preceding Thursday (June 14 and September 13).
Place your material on the curb before 7 a.m. on the pickup day. When preparing your material for pickup:
Remove all dirt and debris from the roots of shrubs. Soil, rocks, leaves, grass clippings and ornamental grasses will not be picked up.
Gather small branches into piles (not bound) not exceeding 24 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length
Large tree limbs should be no longer than 6 feet in length and no thicker than 5 inches in diameter.
The total amount put out for any one pickup should not exceed more than can be placed into a single pickup truck. You can drop yard waste off at the Mt. Lebanon Golf Course on the first Saturday of the month, through October, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Leaves in recyclable craft bags, small twigs, shrubs, brush and branches (under 3 feet) will accepted. No grass clippings, stones, soil, stumps, large limbs or plastic bags.
