Laurel & Hardy Screening

2 p.m., Sunday, January 21

David Newell (aka Mr. McFeely) and Chad Hunter of the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society present an afternoon of classic short movies from comedy legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Pulling out movie reels from David’s personal film collection, they will crank up their 16mm projectors and show their favorite L&H films, talk about 16 mm film, and even teach you how to thread up and run a projector.

A Party for Langston

Celebrate poet Langston Hughes’ 122nd birthday! Read Jason Reynolds’ new picture book, There Was a Party for Langston, learn about other famous Black authors inspired by Langston’s words, then try your hand at poems and art of your own.

Feeling frustrated with your device? Experiencing tech issues? Stop by the learning lab every second Thursday of the month to receive tech help from our Senior Services Librarian, Jane Millard. Examples of topics this program covers: basic navigation for smart phones, eReaders, tablets, and computers; how to use the library’s digital resources; general internet usage and research.

Examples of topics this program does NOT cover: setting up a new device; fixing a broken device; entering private information for you (bank info, social security, etc.).

Carnegie Screenwriters Group

Write or Die is a science fiction, fantasy and horror writing and critique group. Our group includes experienced writers with decades of experience, and newcomers who have yet to see anything in print.

Crafters Group

10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, January 17, February 21

Do you enjoy fiber arts such as knit, crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, and felting; or maybe you’ve always wanted to learn? Work on projects in the company of fellow craft enthusiasts. Materials and tools will be available including a sewing machine, iron, wool roving, embroidery threads, fabric, yarn, jewelry-making tools, card making, and more.

Guest instructors will attend meetings on occasion to lead the group in a structured activity and to answer your crafting questions. Registration not required but helpful for email reminders and updates.

Historical Haven Book Club

Got a hunger for history? Join us as we delve into the world of historical fiction beginning with Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward. To prepare for the discussion, participants are encouraged to finish the assigned reading prior to meeting. Run out of time? Join us anyway! We will fill you in along the way.

Sing, Unburied, Sing is available in regular print, large print, eBook or audiobook.
