VALAR MORGHULIS If you love George R.R. Martin’s books or the HBO series (or both!) you can celebrate Game of Thrones at 7 p.m., Friday, April 22, with period music, food, wine and mead. Mt. Lebanon Library’s Game of Thrones: An Evening in Westeros includes medieval dance lessons by University of Pittsburgh Professor Emily Winerock, a display of wearable chain mail armor thanks to the Knights of the Classroom, and a live steel sword demonstration by the Broken Plow Western Martial Arts and The Pittsburgh Sword Fighters. Tickets for this over-21 event are $20 at the library and at www.mtlebanonlibrary.org.
SPRING IS IN THE AIR Mt. Lebanon Library is hosting a series of garden talks leading up to its July 10 Annual Garden Tour. At 6 p.m., Monday, April 11, is Gardening in Small Spaces. Landscape designer and garden writer Martha Swiss will highlight the plants and techniques needed to garden in small spaces. At 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, American Rose Society Consulting Rosarian David McKibben will guide you through proper plant selection and growing techniques at Growing Today’s Roses.
SWIIIING! Pittsburgh native Richard “Pete” Peterson, author of Growing Up With Clemente and Pops: The Willie Stargell Story will present Baseball’s Italian-American Heritage: The Pirates and Beyond, at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 28. Peterson will discuss the contributions Italian-Americans have made to baseball—not only in Pittsburgh but throughout the major leagues.
THIS IS THE WAY Drawing from an 800-year-old tradition of the Cha Dao, The Way of Tea is a time-honored practice of finding balance, momentum, and spiritual growth through the active process of exploring tea.
The Way of Tea and Tea Tasting at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 30, explores the history of Chinese Tea through the philosophy of yin and yang and the five elements. As a faculty member of the International Tea Masters Association, Daniel Johnson integrates Chinese philosophy, Qigong, nutrition, and herbal medicine into the practice and art of tea.
