The Mt. Lebanon Public Library continues to adjust its schedule to balance serving patrons with the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, patrons are allowed inside the building for computer use only. You can schedule a 45-minute appointment by calling 412-531-1912, extension 3. Appointments are available weekdays from 11 to 6 and Saturdays from 1 to 3. Computers are disinfected daily and patrons receive disposable keyboard and mouse covers to use. Hand sanitizer is available at every computer station. Children under 8 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Printing is free, but scanning is not available. Also not available is in-person help. To make a computer reservation, you will need an active library card. If you don’t have one, you can apply for one online.

You can request items from the library system and pick them up on a table outside the library. Place holds for curbside pickup at 412-531-1912 or online. The entire Allegheny County system catalog is now available and Mt. Lebanon Library has increased its print collection to include multiple titles of summer reading list books as well as trending and digital titles that have long waitlists, making it easier to get high-demand items. Due to a large backlog of items, it may take several days to fill your request, but when items are ready, library staff will contact you to schedule a pick-up time.

Librarians will be in the building, working at the reference desks. They will assist with printing (printed items can be picked up using the contact-free pickup system) and with locating documents online and in the library’s research databases. Reference and curbside pickup hours are 10 to 8 on weekdays and 1 to 5 on Saturday. They can also provide customized reading recommendations via the phone as well as online.

Return books to the library’s lower vestibule, on Castle Shannon Boulevard, from 9 to 8 on weekdays and from 1 to 5 on Saturdays. The standard book drop will be closed until further notice.

Virtual programming will continue for all ages, with lots of increased virtual services programs for children; live book chats, story times and virtual maker programs.  Librarians will put together summer reading bundles—pre-selected theme reading, viewing, or listening material—for all ages, craft kits for adults and learn-at-home kits for children, again, all available through the no-contact pickup system. Call the library to order kits and bundles.

The Book Cellar is not accepting donations and will be closed until further notice.

Library staff is considering expanding computer reservation hours, lending out of tablets, adding homebound delivery and an outdoor internet café.
