Junior commissioners selected

Junior Commissioners Selected Mt. Lebanon High School seniors Katherine Izzo and Thomas Cosentino will be Mt. Lebanon’s junior commissioners for the first and second semesters, respectively, of 2017-18. They will attend commission meetings and report to elected officials on high school students’ concerns and projects. In turn, they will report back to high school students about municipal government.

The junior commissioners were selected by the commission from a field of outstanding candidates. They also will have the chance to attend advisory board meetings, shadow staff members and write for mtl magazine.

Izzo, Woodhaven Drive, is a member of the National Honor Society, plays on the varsity tennis team and plays clarinet in the school’s wind ensemble. She founded the high school’s Politics and Pizza Club and this year co-chaired the Serve2Cure tennis tournament. She is a Medallion Ball candidate with more than 150 hours of community service, including work at Mt. Lebanon Library and teaching tennis to children with autism.  Izzo hopes to major in history or political science.

Cosentino, also of Woodhaven Drive, is a member of the National Honor Society Leadership Council and is a Link leader, mentoring first-year students. He is co-president of the Spanish Club, serves on the Student Curriculum Advisory Council, participates in Model United Nations and is working toward a certificate in global studies.  He volunteers with the Best Buddies program for children with special needs and is on the track and cross county teams. Cosentino works at Fleet Feet Sports and hopes to pursue a career in public policy or law.
