intergenerational games
Mt. Lebanon Village presents its Third Annual Intergenerational Games on Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new Salvation Army Community Center on McNeilly Road.
The idea for the Intergenerational Games is simply to engage generations by pairing up younger folks and older (over 50) in a day of fun recreational activity. Festivities kick off at 9 a.m. with a half mile Chase Your Elders Fun Run/Walk. An aerobic warm-up led by fitness instructor Gurney Bolster will commence at 8:45 a.m. in the gym, and acoustic and string musicians will encourage runners along the route.
After the race, a variety of activities are planned including interactive storytelling performances by renowned Pittsburgh Wing and a Prayer Interplay Troupe. Other activities include: board games, Zumba and Tai Chi classes, shuffleboard, basketball foul shooting and Around the World ping pong, badminton, and horseshoes.
The community center chapel will host two big screen showings of Mt. Lebanon Stories, a personal history video project of Mt. Lebanon High School featuring Village members.
Lunch by Pittsburgh Barbecue and lunchtime entertainment by Bob Lee and his Blue Devil Blues band, performing a Sinatra singalong.
Big band and rock and roll music, and a jitterbug contest round out the program. Mt. Lebanon Village members may come for free as honored guests, as well as any 100-year-olds to help commemorate Mt. Lebanon’s centennial. The event is open to the public; tickets are $10 per person, $25 per family. There is plenty of free parking. Register on-line at www.mtlebanonvillage.org or call 412-343-4054. Door prizes will be awarded and the first 100 participants on site the day of the games will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
