Saints & Stained Glass

Take a tour inside two of Mt. Lebanon’s most historic churches—Saint Bernard and Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian. This 90-minute tour covers the history of both churches with a focus on their stained glass. Meet in front of St. Bernard on Washington Road.

History & Commerce

10 am, Saturday, June 22

This 90-minute tour explores the architecture of Mt. Lebanon’s main business district as well as the history of Mt. Lebanon, and it includes a tour of the Art Deco interior of the old Municipal Building. Meet at the History Center, 794 Washington Road.

Bell, Book & Scandal

6 p.m., Wednesday, August 7

The four corners where Washington Road, Castle Shannon Boulevard and Lebanon Avenue intersect is one of the most history-laden intersections in Mt. Lebanon. In this 90-minute hardly-any-walking tour, former Mt. Lebanon Library Children’s Librarian Judy Sutton will talk about the history of the library and how it works behind the scenes. From there, you’ll head to the nave of Southminster Presbyterian Church across the street for a talk on their stained glass and famous bells. Finally, you’ll move to the four corners themselves to hear the history of Mt. Lebanon as revealed in what you can see from this intersection. Meet at the History Center, 794 Washington Road.

St. Clair Cemetery Lecture

2 pm, Sunday, September 15

This non-walking “tour” introduces you to Mt. Lebanon’s oldest cemetery. Learn about its history, and the people buried there, including Revolutionary War veterans and Mt. Lebanon’s first doctor. For $100, Historical Society members will take your group through a fun and informative slide show on the history and highlights of Mt. Lebanon Cemetery or St. Clair Cemetery. You may even hear a ghost story or two. Participants will receive a map with location highlights to do tours on their own after the talk. Email cready@gmail.com for information.
