High School renovation set to go

Mt. Lebanon School District will have a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the high school campus at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 .  The $89.9 million project, which upon rebid came in six percent below estimates,  should take 48 months to complete. P.J. Dick is  construction manager for the project, and Nello is the general contractor with five other prime contractors included according to specialty.

A preconstruction meeting took place January 10 to discuss items such as the inspection process, staging of the project, traffic control, parking and public safety issues, schedule changes and impact on the park/recreation center.  The meeting, led by Municipal Engineer Dan Deiseroth, included architects, contractors and high school personnel along with the municipal manager, planner, recreation director, public works director, traffic engineer  and representatives of the fire and police departments.

Work at the rear of  B building (fronting Cochran Road) and on the new athletic complex will begin shortly and should be completed by fall 2013. Goal is to complete the project, which will progress in four stages, by spring 2015.  In the interim, there will be traffic, parking and other changes to deal with.  Both the school district and the municipality will widely publicize these issues.  Watch for a comprehensive “insert” from the school district in our April magazine.
