Two young Mt. Lebanon athletes competed in the Disney 3 on 3 World Soccer Championships earlier this year in Florida. Washington School third-grader Ben Feinstein’s team, Norte Unidos, took first place in the Under 9 Gold category, and Foster second-grader Mia Bhuta’s team, the Mon Valley Firedancers, took second in the Under 8 Silver category. Both players are affiliated with the pro soccer team Pittsburgh Riverhounds in their Riverhounds Development Academy, a training ground for elite young soccer players.

Sarah Shaw and Melissa Martin

Sarah Shaw is the new principal of Jefferson Elementary School and Melissa Nelson is the new assistant principal of Mellon Middle School. Shaw comes to Mt. Lebanon from the Cornell School District in Coraopolis, where she was the principal of Cornell Elementary. She has also served as reading specialist and chair of the reading department at the Hempfield Area School District. Nelson was a fourth-grade teacher in the Canon-McMillan School District. Before that, she worked in the Pittsburgh Public Schools at Dilworth Traditional Academy as the American Sign Language Coordinator and instructor for K-5, Pressley Ridge School for the Deaf and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.

 

Bob Freeman, Firwood Drive, owner of Freeman Realty, has been named President of the Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh, for the second time in the history of the organization. Freeman, who has been involved in the real estate industry for 50 years, was honored at the 103rd annual inauguration banquet at the Rivers Casino. A broker with Lilian Freeman Real Estate, FFV Realty, and currently Freeman Realty, Freeman has sponsored more than 1,500 new realtors throughout his career.
