
Simon Mortimer, Ordale Boulevard, received the Adams Award from the National Eagle Scout Association. Mortimer, a senior at Mt. Lebanon High School, was chosen for the award on the merit of his Eagle Scout project, designing and building a playground at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills. Mortimer raised almost $3,000 to fund the project, which features a tire tower, climbing net, monkey bars and stepping stumps. His project was chosen from a field of 400 Eagle Scout projects in the region.

Artist Dave Klug, Summer Place, received a Reuben Award from the National Cartoonists Society. Klug received the award in the Variety Entertainment division, for The PNC Bank Christmas Price Index, an illustrated guide to the current cost of sending each of the gifts in the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Brett Bielewicz is the new principal of Jefferson Elementary School. He comes to the district from Baldwin-Whitehall, where he served as assistant principal at Whitehall Elementary School. He also taught elementary school in the Franklin Regional and Quaker Valley school districts.

The Rev. James W. Tinnemeyer Jr. is the new senior pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Tinnemeyer, a graduate of the Princeton Theological Seminary, has served on the staffs of Shadyside and Oakmont Presbyterian churches. Most recently, he has worked at Waynesburg University as Vice President of Student Services, Dean of Students, Vice President of Faith and Mission and University Chaplain. He lives on Altadena Drive with his wife, Tracy, and their son, William, who is a freshman at Mt. Lebanon High School, and their daughter, Ann, a fifth-grader at Markham School. Tinnemeyer succeeds the Rev. Dr. Daniel B. Merry, who retired this summer.
