David W. Clippinger, Dillon Drive, has published Cultivating Qi: The Root of Energy, Vitality and Spirit. Qi, (or chi), describes a flow of energy or life force and is the central principle of Chinese medicine and martial arts. Clippinger explains what Qi is, where it comes from, how it is used, and how it can be cultivated to achieve wholeness and balance. Clippinger is the director of Still Mountain T’ai Chi and Chi Kung, and the resident Buddhist priest at One Pine Meditation Center.

Lorrie Albert, associate executive director of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, is the new president of the National Conference on Bar Foundations. She will hold the position for one year and will also continue in her role at the ACBF.

As associate executive director at the ACBF, Albert, Valley Park Drive, directs the daily operations and fundraising efforts of the foundation. In her role as NCBF president, Albert will be in charge of developing the organization’s strategic plan, establishing board priorities, identifying speakers and developing programming.

Albert has been with the ACBF since 2005 and became the director in 2014. Previously, she worked as an attorney at KidsVoice, representing dependent children in Juvenile Court. She also worked with the insurance defense bar, concentrating on medical malpractice, product lability and general liability claims. At the beginning of her career, she was law clerk for the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Albert graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1991.

 

Dee Dubell, an interior designer and owner of D’s Designs on Academy Avenue, has been selected as a Certified Color Consultant for PPG paints, based on her vast knowledge of cutting edge products. Through the program, customers pay $75 for a one-hour color consultation with Dubell, and then receive a $50 voucher to use toward PPG Paints. Dubell has worked in new construction and remodeling for more than 20 years. One of her specialties is specifying paint colors for building spec homes. PrintJoin other women to celebrate five Mt. Lebanon women for their contributions to community, Saturday, October 22, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the municipal building, 710 Washington Road. This inaugural event, planned by a committee headed by Mt. Lebanon resident Michelle Winowich-Zmijanac of the Governor’s Commission on Women, honors Mary Larsen, Terri Greenberg, Susan Fleming Morgans,  Carolyn Byham and Rania Harris.

The keynote speaker will be Ellen M. McLean, the chief executive officer of the Port Authority of Allegheny County. Doors open at 8:30 with a continental breakfast served by Uptown Coffee. The program begins at 9 a.m.

Laura Teufel has joined Mt. Lebanon Village as community liaison. Mt. Lebanon Village is an intergenerational network of community volunteers of all ages and seniors from Mt. Lebanon. Teufel has nearly 20 years of marketing and planning experience, with an MBA and MHA from Pitt. Teufel’s role as community liaison is to help raise Mt. Lebanon Village’s profile in the community.

 

The Mt. Lebanon School District is launching a community speakers’ bureau. Residents and Mt. Lebanon alumni who would like to share their expertise with students and faculty are welcome to apply. Veterinarian and LeboLife blogger Marina Siegert will be staffing the Ask The Vet booth at this year’s MGA Pooch Parade, a fundraiser for the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA, a private, non-profit that provides treatment and free support services to those with myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune muscle weakness disorder. The parade, beginning at 10 a.m. (registration at 9), Sunday, October 23 in South Park, features a one-mile fun walk on a paved trail beginning at the dog park. All registered participants will receive morning refreshments, courtesy of Dunkin’ Donuts and United Dairy, a goody bag, an official T-shirt, and a bandana for their dog. Walkers without dogs and even virtual walkers are also welcome to participate. The event features a costume contest with prizes for best dog and best dog/owner combo costumes, as well as prizes for top individual and team fundraisers. There will be free Halloween candy and face painting for the kids, and fabulous raffles of gift baskets and silent auctions. A variety of vendors will be on hand to provide information and products of interest to dog lovers. MGA is partnering with South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) and asking Pooch Parade participants to bring a donation of pet food for the SHIM Food Pantry.
